Case Note & Summary

The Supreme Court of India addressed a correction matter in connection with medical admission cases involving the State of Tamil Nadu. The background involved writ petitions and civil appeals concerning medical admissions and reservation policies. The facts centered around an interim protection order granted on 27th November 2020 for the academic year 2020-2021, which was the subject of subsequent proceedings. The legal issue before the court was whether to continue this interim protection and the correction of paragraph 35 in the order dated 16th March 2022. The arguments were presented through mentioning before the court, though specific contentions were not detailed in the provided text. In its analysis, the court exercised its inherent power to correct clerical errors in judicial records, amending paragraph 35 of its previous order. The court reasoned that no case was made out for continuing the interim protection beyond the academic year 2020-2021, as the interim order was specifically limited to that period. The decision rejected the prayer for continuation of interim protection and directed the Directorate General of Health Services to conduct counselling for the academic year 2021-2022 for Tamil Nadu seats while considering the reservation provided as per the relevant Government Order. The court's correction clarified its position and ensured proper implementation of reservation policies for subsequent academic years.
