Nature of Litigation

Writ Petitions under Article 226 of the Constitution of India challenging a notice by the Forest Range Officer and seeking reclassification of land.

Remedy Sought

Petitioners sought a Writ of Certiorarified Mandamus to quash the notice by the 5th respondent (Forest Range Officer) in Government Order No.832 F&F Government Department, dated 13.07.1881 signed on 8.2.2025, and to direct the first respondent to rectify the error in re-settlement by reclassifying the land in S.No.101/3 in Eguvarpalayam village from 'Kal Medu' to 'Reserve Forest' in the 'A' Register, considering their representation dated 18.3.2023.

Filing Reason

The government had classified the land as 'Kal Medu' instead of 'Reserve Forest' during re-settlement, contrary to earlier classification, and the Forest Range Officer had issued a notice.
