Case Note & Summary
The present intra-Court appeal was filed by Blessy Selvam, a teaching fellow at Anna University, challenging the common order dated 09.11.2020 passed in a batch of writ petitions. Earlier, a Division Bench of the Madras High Court had decided a related writ appeal, against which the Registrar of Anna University filed Special Leave Petitions (SLP Nos. 17339-17342 of 2025) before the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme Court, by a final order dated 25.07.2025, directed that the benefit of monthly gross salary of a regular Assistant Professor be granted to the respondents (teaching fellows) in terms of the directions issued by the learned Single Judge vide order dated 09.11.2020, with arrears of difference in salary to be paid within four months. The appellant, who was not a party to the SLP, sought the same benefit. The High Court, relying on paragraph 7 of the Supreme Court order, held that the benefit extended by the Apex Court is to be extended to the appellant, subject to the eligibility as decided by the learned Single Judge in the impugned writ order. Accordingly, the writ appeal was disposed of with no order as to costs.
